El Morado Natural Park (San José de Maipo)

General description: 93 kilometers from Santiago, you can enjoy one of the most impressive trekking routes in the Metropolitan region. The El Morado Natural Monument is a high mountain natural complex located at over 1,750 meters above sea level, in the town of Baños Morales, San José de Maipo commune. The park preserves a geological state of movement and deposition of glacier materials (moraines) throughout its territory. Its viewpoints and trails allow sightings of mammals, reptiles, and, most notably, birds such as the giant hummingbird, cometocinos, thrush, and, in the mountain peaks, the imposing and majestic condor. It is also possible to appreciate the wonderful high-mountain flora, including molle, white herb, olivillo from the mountains, among others. In winter, the park is covered in snow, transforming the place into a unique spectacle.

Main tourist spots along the route: Plaza de Armas of San José de Maipo, Baños Morales, Aguas de Panimávida, Laguna de Morales, San Francisco Glacier Viewpoint, El Morado Glacier Viewpoint.

Itinerary planning: Our transport will pick you up at your hotel at the previously arranged time. We will travel to the town of Baños Morales (San José de Maipo commune), 2.5 hours from downtown Santiago, to experience this adventure in the heart of the Andes Mountains. The trekking usually lasts 3 hours (round trip). After the activity, we will have lunch and conclude the tour with our return to the hotel in Santiago.

Tour recommendations: To make your expedition enjoyable, we recommend wearing appropriate clothing for high mountain trekking, considering the season when the park will be visited. In summer, temperatures can exceed 30 degrees, while in winter they can drop to 5 degrees, with some days below 0 degrees and the terrain completely covered in snow. Good footwear is essential at any time of the year. Lastly, use sunscreen.

*Important: The route may be closed without prior notice due to weather conditions, usually in winter (snow).
