Winter has arrived in northern Chile, and although temperatures drop, San Pedro de Atacama remains a warm destination in many ways—including its hot springs.

Puritama Hot Springs

Just 30 kilometers from San Pedro, tucked away in an Andean ravine, the Puritama Hot Springs are a true winter refuge. Eight natural thermal pools flow at ideal temperatures for relaxation (around 33 °C), surrounded by vegetation and silence. Immersing yourself in the warm water while the cool air brushes your face is a unique experience.

Warmth and Good Conversation

San Pedro’s town center has a very special atmosphere during winter. The dirt streets fill with people wearing wool hats and warming their hands with a good high-altitude coffee. Some local spots offer terraces with views of the Licancabur and Láscar volcanoes—perfect places to stay cozy, read, and chat.

In winter, sunsets in the Valley of the Moon are even more intense. The sky lights up with oranges, lilacs, and pinks, while the rock formations reflect the sun’s final rays.
