Cerro Toco Adventure Itinerary

We’ll pick you up at 7 a.m. to begin the journey. Once everyone is on board, we’ll drive along the imposing route 27-CH. Before facing the mountain we’ll make a brief stop at the Licancabur and Juriques lookouts. Then we’ll drive to the base of Cerro Toco to make a stop at an altitude of 5,250 m.a.s.l. After we renew our energies, the climbing begins. This can take two to three hours, depending on the pace of the group. It’ll culminate with the satisfaction of reaching the top! However, the adventure doesn’t end there, as the descent will take us approximately one hour more, allowing us to return to San Pedro de Atacama at 2:00 p.m. Although the difference in altitude is about 1,300 ft, don’t be fooled! It’s an ideal trek for those who are new to climbing or who are looking to acclimatize to climb larger volcanoes.

Recommendations

Preparation is essential to enjoy this experience to the fullest! We suggest that you wear warm clothing, as temperatures can be cold at high altitudes, trekking shoes that provide support and traction, sunscreen to protect you from the intense sun, and, of course, at least two liters of water to keep you hydrated during the climbing.
