Licancabur Volcano Tour

$400.000

Explore the most emblematic attractions of San Pedro de Atacama by taking one of our tours in Chile. The Licancabur Volcano is not just a majestic sight on the horizon of Atacama, but it also holds great cultural significance in the hearts and traditions of its people. For generations, this sacred summit has been a point of connection between the Atacameño cosmovision and the cosmos. Although Licancabur is located at the border of Chile and Bolivia, the most challenging and rewarding route to its summit takes us through Bolivian lands.

Licancabur Volcano Tour Planning

Our adventure will start at 10 a.m. when we leave San Pedro to Bolivia. After completing the necessary legal formalities, we’ll enter the magnificent Eduardo Abaroa Park. This landscape will prepare us for what is to come. However, before we move on, we’ll first acclimatize ourselves by taking a quiet trekking around the stunning Lagunas Verde and Blanca, located at an altitude above 13,000 ft. This hike will last approximately 2.5 hours, and will allow us to acclimatize. At the same time, we’ll enjoy the unmatched beauty of these altiplanic jewels. Then we’ll spend the night at Laguna Verde refuge. After a refreshing dinner there, we’ll go to rest early. Next day, before the first light of dawn illuminates the Altiplano, we’ll already be on our feet getting up at 2 a.m. for breakfast. A short drive will take us to the base of Licancabur, from where our challenge will begin. A 5-7 hours climb, followed by a 4 hours descent. It should be noted that, with an elevation gain of 3,900 ft, previous climbing experience is essential, and optimal physical condition is required. If you have any technical questions or would like more information, our agency is at your disposal!

Recommendations

Preparation is essential to enjoy this experience to the fullest! We suggest that you wear warm clothing, as temperatures can be cold at high altitudes, trekking shoes that provide support and traction, sunscreen to protect you from the intense sun, and, of course, at least two liters of water to keep you hydrated during the climbing.
