One of the unknown volcanoes of Atacama, close to the Tatio Geysers. The ascent is done during the day, and the scenery is amazing.
We leave early in the morning towards the base of the volcano, located near the Tatio Geyser, in a sector known as Geyser de Barro, because it’s part of the geothermal activity in the area.
The hike starts at 4,300 meters above sea level, being a long trail, but with little technical difficulty. It’ll take between 4 to 6 hours to reach the summit, where we’ll climb a large rock conglomerate to reach the highest point of the volcano.
The difference in altitude is approximately 1,000 meters, so it’s recommended for people who don’t have much experience in mountaineering, but who maintain a good physical preparation. It’s also optimal for mountaineers who are acclimatizing to larger volcanoes.
Recommendations: Warm clothing, trekking shoes, sunscreen, and at least two liters of water. (Check season and temperature directly with the agency).
